Hunh. Interesting.

Someone left a comment below about one of the BCS board members who supported the cancellation of Issues, Etc.

Rev John Bush of Trenton, NJ is an endorser of Jesus First.

It really is silly that any of us would think that politics was involved. Funny, isn’t it, that the three board members who voted against the Issues shenanigans are confessional men. And the four members who supported the Issues shenanigans are all supporters of the Kieschnick agenda. Interesting. I wonder if it means anything.

  1. My, that’s quite a coincidence. I’ve also considered it quite a coincidence that the petition signers seem to be confessional, whereas supporters of the Kieschnick agenda seem to be missing, at least from the Lutheran element. But I’m sure politics are not involved. No – it can’t mean anything.

  2. Pres. Kieschnick is a coward.

Strand, Kieschnick – get some guts.

Be honest. The message of Issues, Etc. is at odds with your vision. Tell the truth. You will feel better.

If you believe this was the best thing for all of our souls then tell us that.

  3. I will say this much in an effort to be fair: when looking through all 7000+ names on the petition, I did see some names/locations that surprised me, including some from SPK’s own home congregation of Concordia, Kirkwood (MO).

Issues, Etc., did have some fans “across the aisle”…

  4. Glen:

I also saw some sigs. from some folks from an LCMS CG church in our area.

  5. Can someone please explain the Jesus First garbage to me?

I read their site, and all I can figure out, was they are a bunch of poopy-pants who are mad about power control, vestments, and confessions. The power control issue is one that will always be coming and going, because of sin and individuals, (look at now), the vestment stuff makes no sense, other than they are a bunch of hormonal Boomers, and the confessional subject I really can’t understand at all.

To me, I don’t even know why they want to be Lutheran. What gives?

  7. Lucciola,
Contact me off-list. The Geez-Us-First story is too long for a blog! Basically, a batch of aging Seminexers and other supporters from the ’60s-’70s

  8. “they [JesusFirst] are a bunch of hormonal Boomers.”

BINGO! And remember, as we learned from Issues, Etc. time and time again … everything wrong with the synod is the Baby Boomers’ fault.

  9. Jesus First is a political action group within the Missouri Synod. They attempt to portray themselves as moderates, but are really campaigning in the middle so they may lead the church to the left. They are church elitists who have a way of making scritpure, doctrine and the bylaws fit a position they’ve already taken.
If the LCMS is run like an old Soviet Politburo, Jesus First is Party Headquaters.

  10. JesusFirst, or as I have preferred to call their organization, The Blasphemously Named Jesus-First Political Action Committee (TBNJFPAC).

I’ve long been puzzled that signers of the TBNJFPAC “affirmations” have not been pilloried as divisive, while those who (for example) signed on to TTMBO were darned near run out of town on a rail. The TTMBO statements were far more in line with historic Lutheranism than the TBNJFPAC affirmations, but guess which caused more synodo-political consternation…

    Heh…one of the many times i’d yell at my radio between 3 & 5 p.m. ….. when I’d hear that. Boomer that I am….

Well, the whole “erase all evidence of its existence” sure made me think of the Soviet empire. I wonder what it’s like for a confessional person there who happens to be on staff. I imagine that person is pretty quiet in the face of all the smug giggling about how Jerry & David and crew are ablazing along to the winner’s circle.

  12. OH, this is bad, replying to my reply, but another Soviet comparison comes to mind: They got rid of the library a few years back, didn’t they?

    ok, I’m thru now. Promise.

  13. :D

I always say, “The surest sign that you’re a baby boomer is that you can’t admit that baby boomers are simply not cool.”

I tried to convince my mom that if she could admit she was an uncool boomer who was out of touch, she’d be cool again, but she (Godblessher) simply COULD NOT bring herself to admit it. :D lol May the Lord preserve me from thinking I’m a sabre-tooth when I reach the age of dinosaur!

  14. Tim, I know you didn’t mean to imply that the trouble in the Synod is MY fault, being a certified boomer. I am trying my best to convince the older folks in my congregation that the younger people are the ones calling for “our grandfather’s church”. Maybe the boomers are at fault after all :) I actually think more dissension is coming from life-long Lutherans opposing the desire to remain confessional by we Lutheran converts. We KNOW what we have in the traditions, the lifers only think there is something more FUN out there. Come on all you lifers. Read your Book of Concord, pay attention in worship, actually pray during the prayers and you might fall in love with your church again

  15. I actually think more dissension is coming from life-long Lutherans opposing the desire to remain confessional by we Lutheran converts.

    Mrs. 241,

    I agree completely.

There’s nothing worse than someone who’s been Lutheran their whole lives and doesn’t appreciate what they’ve got.

They should go around the church block and have to learn the hard way, like you and me and quite a few others.

Maybe the Cheesus Firsters and other lifelongers with itching ears should join the nondenom world or whatever for 5 years and then come back. Give us newbies a break!

  16. Careful what you say. My husband and I are, age-wise, boomers, but we have never fit the mold. Just as there are Lutherans who are Lutheran in name only, there are boomers who are boomers in name only, but who don’t abide by the rules for boomers. We definitely are not cool, we are definitely too Lutheran, and we are quite alone even in our own Lutheran church as confessional Lutherans. It is enough to be alone in your own congregation; we have been heartened to find that we are indeed among at least 7,000. Don’t disown us.

  17. Correction: 7418.

  18. The first page of the JF webpage describes the division within the baby-boomers and the entire Synod. It’s the “guardians” vs the “missionaries.” It says “guardians” are against “change.” It misses the point. “Guardians” are not against “change.” They are against heresy.
    That’s just a tip of the iceberg…
So they got rid of the library that was in the Purple Palace’s basement a few years ago???
